What are Extractive Industries
Extractive industries refer to all companies in Trinidad and Tobago that explore for and produce oil, natural gas and minerals. These companies (particularly oil and gas companies contribute significantly to government revenue, some of which is used to finance or provide subsidized healthcare, water, cooking gas and even education.
However, low oil and gas prices coupled with low production continues to limit the sectors’ contribution. For more information on the extractive sector, see Section 3 of our EITI Reports.
